Do you have any feedback regarding onboarding and documentation?

6 out of 18 answered

Great documentation, more code examples is always welcome.
Generally the documentation is excellent, but sometimes new features haven't been documented
The onboarding experience with Avo is wonderful. Light years ahead of most other tools I’ve used that are similar to Avo.
I followed https://docs.avohq.io/2.0/installation.html but somehow it didn't added the engine to my route file. Not a big issue. What would be nice is to add an example of what is going to be added to routes.rb in case the script missed it.
It's really improved since I started (early 2022). But it's been good from my perspective -- especially someone with Active Admin background.
Getting started is super simple and pleasant.

5 out of 18 answered

Maybe something more elaborate for file(s) management?
Missing functionality for create of associated classes
I kind of miss a multi select field, looking forward to implement custom field on a new project
I'd love to see more fields, over time -- maybe a table editor (similar to key/value but with more than 2 keys/values)
The DSL can be inconsistent - some options are static while others are callable procs.

Do you have any feedback regarding the UI and/or theming?

4 out of 18 answered

I find it strange that the save/submit buttons for forms are at the top (not the bottom) by default. I feel like that goes against convention. Also, I've had users ask for an auto-save feature and I wish avo supported that out of the box. The theming is perfect for my needs.
Theming is an area for improvement. Avo’s default styles are great, but having the ability to customize color schemes and expose a way to select themes for the end user is highly desired.
I don't care about theming colors branding as it is for internal usage. What I am looking for is the ability to add custom content to a show view. Here is an application example, we have have little games in our app that are backed by a model that will describe this game. I would like to be able to add a preview of that game in the admin once it is created to that we can test it easily before releasing it to production
I felt that the visual appearance from Avo v1 to v2 was a regression.

Please rate the Dashboards feature

Do you have any feedback regarding the Dashboards feature?

5 out of 18 answered

The possibility of making the counters clickable?
I don't really use it at that point
1. Combining multi-row and single-row entities cause them not to line up; 2. (Cards) I had to override `chartkick_options` to dyamically set the options based on the `result_data`; how about letting chart_options or its sub-items be lambdas which are passed the result data?
Creating cards in the dashboard still feels like a lot of work. Defining simple components inline (eG just a number or a chartkick chart) would probably lower the barrier of adding things to a dashboard.
It'd be nice to have a few more examples/recipes for common charts.

I think that Avo should cost more, and potentially restructure what users pay for. The authorization features being a paid feature doesn’t sit well with me because that’s a core component of making a safe and secure application for customers using the base Avo.
I chose two because it depends on your perspective. It saves us time (and therefore money) in the project we're using it on at my work, but I wouldn't consider it for a side-project because of the cost. Perhaps different licences depending on entity would be reasonable? The company I work at is huge and so the cost is peanuts.

Would you pay a higher one-time fee instead of a yearly subscription?

Any other feedback for us regarding pricing?

5 out of 18 answered

I love the simple pricing. I think that it could be a bit higher for what you get, but maybe scale it based on some usage factor to keep it accessible for startups. Maybe that could be its own pricing category?
the amount of saving does reflect the real potential as our current state is more of of POC to replace Active Admin
Agency pricing could be interesting for the future (multiple licenses for a flatrate). Also handling the licensed in the portal feels a bit clunky (usually we don’t know the final url yet when we purchase a license)
I'm not clear on what happens if a single saas company has multiple projects running avo. It'd be nice to have scenarios mapped out.
I'd love to see a "solo dev package" option, maybe limited and for a very small one-time fee (like $100). I love using Avo on my personal side projects and would love to get access to some features.

I think that the existing methods used by Avo is sufficient, however maybe making the authentication interface more accessible or customizable could achieve what you are going for.

Keep up the amazing work. This is by far the most amazing project I’ve found in the past 5 years within the rails ecosystem.
Thanks for what you are doing
Well done. I really do like what you're doing and I'm excited to see where you'll go. I haven't spent a vast amount of time with Avo yet so my feedback is perhaps less valuable, but I'm sure to have more in the future.
no time, low priority to change, would have to re-create quite a few customized views and admin actions
