Perpetual fallback license

"Do you offer a perpetual fallback license?"

We used to offer a perpetual fallback license for Avo 3, which let you keep using the version you were on without an active subscription. We no longer offer it for Avo 4 and newer.

I do not like DSLs. They always cause troubles in the long run. But this one seems "natural" I didn't even notice.

TL;DR;

  • We offered the perpetual fallback license for Avo 3.
  • It is no longer offered for Avo 4 and newer.

A perpetual fallback license lets you keep using a specific version of software without an active subscription. This type of license was made popular by JetBrains as they use it in almost all their products.

We offered a perpetual fallback license for Avo 3: if you chose not to renew, you could keep using the version you were on when the subscription ended, without further bugfixes, security, or feature updates until you renewed.

We no longer offer a perpetual fallback license for Avo 4 and newer. Using Avo requires an active subscription.

How it worked for Avo 3

Let's imagine you purchased Avo 3 on November 1st 2023, at the time on version 3.1.1. You got a year of updates until November 1st 2024.
If on November 1st 2024 Avo reached version 3.13.0 and you chose not to renew your subscription, you could use Avo 3.13.0 indefinitely.

That meant you would not receive updates to that Avo instance from that moment on.
