Today is (almost) the big day — we're releasing the Open Beta of Avo 4.
It's not coincidental that four years ago today in 2022 we released Avo 2. That's when we introduced the new visual identity with a responsive design, the dashboards and more.
This release comes with "three main things" to test.
- UI4 - the new refreshed visual style
- The new features - in which I'll go into details in a short bit
- Internal fixes and API changes - which we go into very deeply in the upgrade guide.
UI4 - the new refreshed visual style
Avo 2/3 had a good UI change which helped our customers build what they needed fast. UI4 takes it even further with its customization options.
The new cards and buttons are more expressive than before.
The color picker gives more flexibility and customization power.
We've brought new configuration options like config.container_width, the new card DSL, the brand new smart breadcrumbs, the discreet_information overhaul, global and resource search, and more to give you more flexibility in building the experience you need for your users.
The big new features
Avo 4 Open Beta comes with a few new features to try out:
A few others are incoming too (Dynamic collections + Meta, Notifications, MCP, and RBAC).
Please install and test them out.
Smaller features, internal fixes and API changes
The big featuers are not the only stars of this release. We added made some small tweaks to some of the APIs. We made them tighter based on your feedback and usage.
We go through each change on the comprehensive Avo 3 to Avo 4 upgrade guide. There's also a prompt you can use to let an LLM do the work for you.
To get an idea into what we changed internally I'll name a few below.
- renamed
cover_photo, andprofile_phototocoverandavatar - tweaked the discreet information DSL
- improved the
panelDSL and component and introduced thecardcomponent. - extracted and renamed the index view types components
- pagination now runs on pagy 4
- breadcrumbs DSL was improved
- removed
clusterin favor ofwidth - added
label_help - added
view.single?option - and more internal changes which don't break public APIs
Pricing
We haven't finalized Avo 4 pricing yet. We've added so many new features and modules that our current bundle structure no longer makes sense — so we're rethinking it. We'll share details once we have something concrete.
In the meantime, Pro/Advanced tiers and gems remain in place through the open beta.
Note
During the beta, all gems are available to try regardless of your subscription tier — including if you're not subscribed at all.
Once we release the new pricing you'll need to switch to a paid license to keep using them.
How do I get started?
